OUR ARTS, culture and enrichment PROGRAMMEs

Confidence Built Through Creative Expression

Creative expression plays an important role in building our children’s confidence, self-belief and ability to express themselves. Across all three of our schools, our children have opportunities to explore their creativity through music, drama, art, dance and a variety of other cultural and enrichment activities.

These experiences encourage children to step outside their comfort zones, develop their individual talents and share their abilities with others, while fostering confidence, creativity and a sense of accomplishment.

Platforms for Cultural Enrichment

Drumming

Djembe drumming is a distinctive and celebrated part of life at Southern Cross Schools, reflecting our deep appreciation for African heritage and culture. Our senior drumming squad has consistently achieved top honours at eisteddfods and is regularly invited to perform at events and cultural exchanges, proudly sharing their talent with wider communities.

Marimbas

Marimba music is a growing and exciting part of musical life in the College. The ensemble gives children the opportunity to develop their musical skills while experiencing the energy and enjoyment of making music together. As the programme continues to grow, so too do the opportunities for our children to perform.

Chess

Chess is a popular part of cultural life in both our Preparatory School and College. The game encourages children to think strategically, solve problems, plan ahead and make thoughtful decisions, while developing patience and concentration. Our children have the opportunity to represent Southern Cross Schools at a variety of chess tournaments, putting their skills to the test while enjoying the challenge and camaraderie of competitive play.

Drama

Our drama programmes lay the foundation for confident, creative performers, equipping children with the skills and confidence to thrive on stage. This strong grounding culminates in high-quality productions, as well as impressive eisteddfod performances in all of our schools. In the College, our annual Night of 1000 Stars showcases the talent, creativity, and collaboration of our children in the College.

Visual Arts

From the Preschool through to the College, children are encouraged to explore and express themselves through art. As they progress through the school, they develop their technical skills while nurturing their creativity, confidence and individual artistic style. We celebrate our children’s talents through exhibitions, and by entering art eisteddfods.

Clubs

Our extensive clubs programmes in both the Preparatory School and College provides opportunities for our children to explore new interests, develop skills and discover their passions. Incorporated into the daily timetable from Prep School to the College, our clubs offer a diverse range of activities, including dance, robotics, chess, library, events planning, theatre sports, drumming marimbas, First Aid and gardening.
