Southern Cross Schools is an independent, four-term school, offering a continuous education across our Preschool, Preparatory School and College. Our campus in Hoedspruit sits within the Raptor’s View Wildlife Estate, a landscape we are privileged to share with nature. In this setting, the bushveld becomes a classroom and a place of discovery for our children.
Our small school environment ensures that every child receives individual attention and benefits from strong teacher-child relationships. Our academic, sport, culture and bush lore programmes develop capable, well-rounded and nature-conscious children, while our close-knit community provides a strong foundation of care. We pride ourselves on creating an environment in which every child is known and nurtured.
Our schooling extends into a family-orientated, weekly and termly boarding programme which is available from Grade 6 to Grade 12.

Our children’s academic journey culminates in Grade 12, when they write the IEB National Senior Certificate, drawing on the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout their years at Southern Cross Schools.
Building Character Through Sport
Sport is an integral part of life at Southern Cross Schools. In the pool, on the field and on the courts, our children develop discipline, resilience and good sportsmanship, while discovering the joy of being active.
Our sporting programme evolves with our children. In the Preschool, the focus is on developing gross motor skills and building sporting confidence. As our children progress through the Preparatory School and College, they participate in a variety of different sports, including swimming, hockey, netball, athletics, cricket, soccer and cross country.
Growing Confidence Through Culture
Through drama, drumming, music, art, chess and a range of cultural clubs, our children are encouraged to explore their individual interests, develop their creativity and express themselves with confidence. These experiences broaden their perspectives while fostering an appreciation for the richness and diversity of culture.
Our cultural programmes give our children the chance to celebrate their creativity through productions, exhibitions and events throughout the year. Every child is encouraged to find their voice and take pride in their achievements.
Exploring Through Bush Lore
Bush Lore is a unique part of the Southern Cross Schools experience. Our children have regular opportunities to explore the surrounding bushveld with a dedicated Bush Lore teacher, who is a qualified field guide.
Bush Lore fosters a deep connection with nature at every stage of our children’s education. Our children develop a deep understanding of their environment, along with a lasting sense of respect for the world around them.
